Solvay starts its first photovoltaic project in China
Zhenjiang, April 21, 2021
Solvay seals the deal with Engie China, to kick off our first solar power project in China —— Zhenjiang
rooftop photovoltaic program. Leveraging this project, Solvay seeks to cut greenhouse gas emission, drive our
sustainability plan Solvay One Planet and contribute to China’s carbon neutrality targets.
Solvay Zhenjiang production site will make use of qualified rooftops of its warehouses to install over 9,000
square meter of photovoltaic panels and utilize the renewable solar electricity generated by the project for daily
production, which is set to optimize its energy structure. The project has a designed solar power capacity of 891
KW. Scheduled to be completed in April 2022, it will help the site to cut emissions by 550 ton carbon dioxide
equivalent per year. According to the deal, Engie China will take full responsibility for the investment,
installation and maintenance of the panels, while Solvay will purchase the power.
Solvay Greater China President Leo SUN says: “As Solvay’s first solar power project in China, the
Zhenjiang rooftop photovoltaic program attaches extraordinary importance. It will serve as an inspiration and
prototype for further energy transition projects at our operations across China. Following the Group’s
sustainability plan, we will continue to reduce emissions and enable greener products for clients, while also
contributing to China’s carbon neutrality goals.”
According to Solvay One Planet, the Group’s sustainability plan launched in early 2020, Solvay aims at double
the rate at which we reduce emissions, with a target of curbing greenhouse gas emissions by 26% and aligning
its trajectory with the “well below 2°C temperature increase” goal outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement.
